BEST BETS

R1 n4 PEREILLE – Ideal map mid field and outside resuming off 70-day spell and two trials. Only 3 wins from 15 starts but has been placed 14 of his 15 career starts and is very well placed in a BM85 grade today. This track will suit his racing pattern where he can balance up midfield and charge home late down the middle of the track. He has elite closing speed and loves soft ground. Clear top pick here today with J Mac back aboard him.

R3 n11 TOJAKI – Maps well MF on outside- ideal spot today on this tack off a fast tempo. 4* up off 21 days drops 2kg stays at 1400m. Really strong 4YO mare trained on this track by leading local trainer. Last start sat 7* on a fast tempo and destroyed a Class 6 field late to win by 3.5L heavily backed at 1400m Slow 5. She seems to have matured now and is unbeaten at this track with 1400m being her ideal distance and is well suited on soft tracks. This is her toughest test to date but keen she is up to winning a race like this today with 53kg.

BEST BETS

R1 n1 IMPERIAL FORCE – Will be positive early from the wide draw and will be on speed today at 3rd race start off 24 days and had a nice quiet tick over trial at Rosehill May 2 to keep him up to the mark fitness wise for today. That trial will be very beneficial on the wet track today. Rises 1kg back to 1200m (-50m). Has been very good both runs and looks an above average colt. Last start sat up on a fast tempo from the outside barrier draw and drew right away late to win by 3.8L – he spread that field right out margins wise. The second horse from that race was since very good last Saturday at Hawkesbury. Unknown on wet tracks but not many of the breed don’t handle it and looks very talented.

R5 n9 SCARLET OAK – Maps very well from soft draw 3rd race start off 21 days rises 2.5kg out to 1600m (+200m). Last start (first for Waller ex NZ trained) sat 5th off a very slow tempo and closed off very well late on a Heavy 9 track for 2d beaten 3.8L by a swimmer that day. She was very well backed at $4.80 there despite coming from a NZ maiden into a Group 3 race. Sure to be improved by that run and sets up well today out to 1600m and back to BM72 class off a great map. Wet no issue.

R6 n4 GOLDMAN –  Maps very well on speed here from inside draw 2d up off 21 days (spell was 182 days plus two trials) rises 1.5kg out to 2200m (+200m) which suits him. Last start was excellent resuming at 2000m and ridden forward on a very fast tempo that suited the run on horses. He was very brave late beaten 2.3L by Huertor and more importantly was well backed at $5.50. He had a forgettable 4 start spring campaign but prior to that was awesome in his first three runs in Aust for Waterhouse/Bott- with his figures from there being elite. Loves wet tracks and looks clear top pick this race today.

R8 n9 TAVI TIME Maps closer today 3P back inside off this draw 4th up off 28 days. Drops 6kg out to 1600m (+200m) which suits ideally after his three return runs this prep all being at 1400m. Last start drew outside, went right back to 14th on a very fast tempo and closed off well late. Loves soft tracks and overall figures very good for this class of race. Clear top pick running home late if can get away from inside in the straight with

BEST BETS

R2 n6 HES BESET Maps well resuming off 168 days and was very strong late in his last jump out. Returned gelded last prep and was very good behind JimmyStar in both runs. Closed off late in both runs – they were his first for N Ryan stable (was an ex NZ horse) His form over there was good with genuine excuses in some of the losses. Perfect race for him resuming today class wise- he just looks better than these and with blinkers on and a good map he should be too good.

R3 n4 OUR RED MORNING Maps closer today off inside draw but still could be 3P back there. 2nd up off 21 days (spell was 189 days). Rises 1kg out to 1400m (+200m) and positive riding change. Last start dew wide went back to last on a fast tempo but had a dominant close late on a Soft 5 track. There was some real quality in her close there and that race was stronger than here today. Her best form is clearly on wet tracks so the overnight rain bringing track to a Soft 6 is perfect for her. I am a fan of this jockey, and he can get her into the clear and she will be too strong from there late.

R4 n2 ELPHINSTONE Maps very well behind leaders from inside draw 4* up off 14 days drops 1.5kg stays at 1600m. Negative riding change but claim is very important and she is an easy enough filly to ride. Last start drew soft sat 6* on an even tempo but was strong late out to 1600m winning well with the tongue tie on first time. Not sure of overall quality of that race but figures were good (career peak rating) and this race today doesn’t look any stronger. In the zone and only 4th up today from inform stable.

R9 n6 FRIGID Maps very well on speed this tempo 4th up off 21 days stays at 1600m in BM84 class with same weight due to claim. This rider suits this mare and maps well again form soft draw. Last start smashed late in betting ($2.80) sat 5* on a slow tempo and destroyed them late winning easily. Overall figures from race looked only basic but the form behind her that day has been well and truly franked since. She is a lot better mare off a fast early tempo when she settles better and her win here last prep t 2000m was outstanding. Can win again today and soft is a bonus.

BEST BETS

R2 n2 APUNTAR – is on debut for the in-form Kevin Kemp stable. He hasn’t been seen at the public trials but has been very impressive at the jump-outs including his latest when leading all the way in smart time, has drawn the inside and will be very hard ti beat

R4 n1 POSITIVITY – NZ filly who was off a 42-day break prior to last start here in the Oaks when ran home late from well back to be beaten 3.5 lengths by Vibrant Sun. Gets Damien Lane here today and out to 2500m (+500m) is a bonus for her. She will be too strong for these fillies late at this trip and keen she wins
