BEST BETS

R6 n7 SKIRT THE LAW – Positive early on map to lead or sit OSL resuming off 211-day spell (long break) and won trial Doomben April 11 1000m (59.29 sec-average time) by 2.75L. Jumped straight to the front in trial led/controlled by 7L at the 500m. Eased down late to win but probably had enough by then anyway. Has had her share of issues since winning a very weak Magic Millions but did resume last prep off 175 days in two very fast quality 1100m races and should have won at least one of them. Should be too good for these at 1000m.

BEST BETS

R1 n8 SEASCAPE – Leads inside with pressure up front. 2nd race start off 17 days rises 1kg stays at 1100m. Won Gosford by 4.8L on debut Slow 7 drew outside barrier there crossed led/controlled and way too good. Had an outstanding close there late in that race -well-bred quality filly and destined for lot better races than today.

R6 n1 LETS TRY – Leads fence and suited there 2d up off 14 days (spell was 170 days but had two trials) Stays at 1200m which suits this race shape/tempo today. Resumed Newcastle led on a fast tempo heavily backed $2.60 won by 2.6L in meeting best figure. Had a very strong close there off a fast tempo which is always a sign of quality. Was resuming there off a 3 month ban for bleeding and quite often that can be their best and only high rating of a prep but he was super impressive. Huge 4YO emerging horse that really runs for this jockey.

R8 n10 INOWASTAR – Leads and controls on map 21d up off 28 days (spell was 144 days) no public trial (missed a run last week when race was called off). K Nisbet has first ride on him today and I’m not exactly sure what to think of that. Drops 6kg out to 1500m (+100m) Last start led by big margin on a fast tempo but gassed out late L200m beaten 1L at $9.50. Proven up to BM78 class but today is a step up from that and I am not a fan of this gear change despite what the experts say. He won’t have to lead as fast early this race today with light weight so he is obviously very hard to run

Caufield Meeting Selections

 Race 1: 3* from 12,1,5  Race 4: 4* from 2,10,3 Race 7: 4,5,3,9
 Race 2: 1,8,10,12  Race 5: 4* from 6,7,2 Race 8: 10.8.12.1
 Race 3: 1,3,2,7  Race 6: 2* from 6,7,4 Race 9: 1,5,2,6
Race 10: 2,3,1,7

BEST BETS

R1 n3 BEWS – Maps back inside but will be ridden closer today off soft draw but will need clear air at some stage in straight. 21d up off 21 days (spell was 147 days) stays at 1200m 2d up. Resumed here Slow 5 (soft suits him) sat 10* on a Very Slow tempo charged late beaten on line at $5. Closing sectionals there were elite- he has a booming finish and if gets clear air in straight will demolish this field late.

R4 n4 EXTRATWO – Maps forward inside behind the leaders 5th up off 14 days rises 2.5kg stays at 1400m back to Fillies & Mares class here. Last start was off 21 days and out to 1400m first time Bendigo and she had her chance on a slow tempo for 2d to Chorlton Lane (very smart horse) beaten 1.5L at well backed $3.60. That’s a great form reference for this race and off 14 days she can be expected to be fitter for the 1400m. Rock solid 4YO mare and horse to beat here.

R5 n4 BERKLEY SQUARE – Gets back on map but will get chance late in race in small field 5th up off 21 days stays at 2000m. Last start slow away and held up in straight off a fast tempo sat 11th Caulfield Group 3 charged late beaten 1.5L at $9-had race dominant close there but subsequent form from race has been questionable. All 4 of his wins have been on wet tracks and it’s now 10 runs since he’s won a race but he won’t get a better chance than today to correct that. L Currie getting back aboard him today is a plus and is very well weighted this weight scale.

R6 n2 MODOWN – MF on map should have back to follow there and run on late. 4th up off 14 days out to 1600m. Last start drew outside barrier Bendigo was slow away went right back early on a slow tempo, then over raced but still ran home late beaten 3L at $17. Closing figures there were huge (Best L400m of meeting) and sets him up ideally for today. His one run at 1600m was ridden upside down leading in a Sandown Guineas and dropped right out late at the end of last prep. Talented 3YO finds right race

 Race 2: 3,5,6,7 Race 5: 6,4,7,1 Race 8: 4,7,3,2
 Race 3: 4* from 5,6,7 Race 6: 4,2,3,8 Race 9: 1* from 7,5,2

BEST BETS

R3 n4 BARNEY’S WORLD – 3d up today on 7 day back up. Very good winning here last week and his closing figures off a fast speed were high quality. He beat a quality filly (Generosity) there and maps well here behind the speed to launch in the straight.

R9 n1 DESSENEA -3rd up today and so well suited this race out to 1600m after staying at 1400m when 2d up and ran into a peak rating by a decent horse when 2nd. M Poy gets replaced by W Pike today which is a huge change. 3rd up last prep this horse went on a winning spree once out to this distance. That should happen again today and keen he wins.

BEST BETS

R6 n9 INTRECCIATO – had been racing well without luck in stronger maidens in Brisbane before storming home for 2nd at this track last start, can run over the top of these late to
